I am getting a p0404 pertains to the egr valve My question is, is this common for the valves to go bad? Do you think I could just clean it?

I had the code read and it was P0404 and the recommendation is to clean the exhaust gas recirculation valve and all egr ports  The engine code is P0404 which refers to the EGR valve I replaced the valve with all new gaskets as it was rusty and the vehicle is at 194K
